Awaken Sapien

Stop hitting snooze, the only way out is in.

What Enlightenment Isn’t

All thinking isn’t it.

It is technically, because everything is ultimately it, but that’s not relevant because it’s just something that becomes apparent once in the awake state

While attempting to wake up its useful to still describe as it and not it, because there is a state of being where you aren’t aware of truth and suffer perpetually, and there’s the state where you are permanently seeing the truth of the situation

We want to get from A to B, though that is technically paradoxical to say in this situation enlightenment and non-duality, its a required way to understand the process from the dual state of mind

You want to get from A to B

You don’t have much free over thoughts and emotions. You are carried around by them, and your emotions, and your actions are influenced by automatic thoughts and emotions. This repeated behaviour reinforces this process of the thoughts/emotions/biology steering the ship of your conscious experience.

Like a puppet attached to strings, controlled by them. Conditioning. This pattern of conditioning reinforcing more of the predictable thought, emotion, and behaviour patterns is called karma in some traditions.

Your past and your biology is directing your being. Influencing your thoughts and emotions. A sense of self is a special thought/emotion. It’s this vague overarching or underling feeling of there being a person, a personality, a someone home doing the experiencing. This sense of Self is constructed through memories and thinking. It was a tool to help navigate the world of externally dictated thoughts and emotions, to move from bad to good. There is a sense of an individual striving for survival in a single celled organism, the seed of this which is highly developed in the human species, who came to require a much more complicated sense of Self. A personality, a thing that can take credit for its actions, that can desire good things and want to avoid bad things happening to them. Your human Self got extremely complex to become a public relations manager and much more. A complex craving creature, that isn’t really real, and freeing oneself from compulsivity and influence to the conditioning requires you become aware of the fact that the present moment is all that exists and you sit in it outside of thought, realising thinking is dreaming, and you sit in that emptiness, this increases clarity of awareness, which leads to insights into the nature of reality.

Some of these truths about the nature of reality involve impermanence, the way that all of life can be described as sensations arising and passing. There are bodily sensations, mental perceptions and emotions, thoughts, and consciousness – consciousness being aware of all the sensations arising and passing away in every moment. This consciousness is always of something. It is consciousness of the impermeant stuff, hence it is also impermanent. The aware of being a separate self is gone in sleep for example. When you think about this deeply you see that the sense of self, or yourself, is ultimately also a sensation that arises and passes away, is subject to change, and is therefore impermanent.

This realisation that there is no one home, is called realisation of noself. This truth makes one present, because the perpetual thinking which puts one into a dream is lessened, and gone even. So you aren’t autothinking anymore because the thinking was made compulsive and automatic by the belief that one was the thinking, that they were a thinker. A thinking being.

You give up on the dream of yourself. This leads to freedom from suffering and clarity about reality and what it is.

Desire or attachments are related with the automatic thinking, they fuel the process. They add meaning to the compulsive thinking so you believe it.

For some reason when one is thinking perpetually, they fear stopping. Its uncomfortable, almost pain. The perpetual thinking is connected to our desire to be perpetually stimulated, so compulsively engaging with the external world can be thought of as equal to this same trap we are in, in which we compulsively think and stimulate ourselves. There is a pleasure and pain relationship going on here. We stimulate ourselves and avoid boredom, boredom is painful. Be bounce from thing to thing. Doing nothing is uncomfortable. It’s not a habit-reinforcing activity because its not stimulating or doesnt release reward chemicals.

Its nothing. When one experiences pleasure repeatedly, the absence of the pleasure isn’t neutrality, it is suffering or pain. This means that one becomes stuck in this situation where they need to keep stimulating themselves to avoid the suffering which comes from doing nothing, because it takes some time of doing nothing before the body recalibrates and doing nothing once again becomes the baseline of pain and pleasure, and hence doesnt cause pain.

There is a state you can get to where doing nothing isn’t just neutral either, it can become blissful and enjoyable. You just must make this place the headquarters. The non-action place. The more this place becomes the default the better. This is the process.

The process of waking up from the dream. This process isn’t conceptual, as all this text is. It is closer to feeling than thinking.

Pretty much all ideas, theories, philosophies, and religions aren’t it. They can’t be. All those things can only ever be signposts.

This is why enlightenment is said to always be an accident, but certain activities make you more accident prone.

“Enlightenment is an accident, but some activities make you accident-prone.” – Jiddu Krishnamurti

Some patterns of thinking, beliefs, and actions make your more accident-prone, more likely to become enlightened.

Actions – meditating and increasing mindfulness and concentration. This practice establishes the required calmness, focus, clarity, and alterness required to see reality clearly. It calms the ripples on the bond so the moons light isn’t distorted in its reflection.

Thoughts and beliefs – thoughts, beliefs or concepts ultimately can’t get you there, but the reason certain ones increase the liklihood of the ‘accident’ occuring, they are useful to develop and install into your mind to increase the chances. The way beliefs aid this process is that… it is like filling your mind up with signposts to now. To nothingness. As if awakeness was being present and not thinking, and thinking was dreaming, but you design the dream so that it repeatedly just says to you ‘stop dreaming’ ‘your dreaming if youre thinking’ ’emptiness’. Internalising these concepts is like sticking sticky notes on your minds screen so that whenever you compulsively go back to the sleep state, controlled by conditionings, you can’t bullshit yourself. You habitually go back to trying to follow a path, but then you are repeatedly reminded by concepts that there is no path whatsoever to take, you are disullisioned about the promise of paths, you accept and surrender and become at home on the pathless path, you go throught the gateless gate once you fully see, and are utterly convinced, of the truth that you don’t exist and your desire to find another path is a desire for that illusion of self to persist, through the automatic thinking/feeling/action cycles, which place you at the centre, as the experiencer of everything. Taking things very personally. Usually in an unpleasant state of some degree of suffering because it hurts to be a separate self in a world of external things. You are alone and lonely and you require interaction with the external world to feel complete. Cravings, attachments, yearing, direct your life. You obsess over a cursh, a purchase, a decision, or another form of it is the craving manifesting patterns of behaviour that repeat and reinforce the familiar cycles you go through.

So, you instead see through this illusion and surrender.

This makes life better, such relief. It’ s almost as if you were in a car, highly intoxicated trying to drive, causing a bunch of turmoil, yet the entire time you could have let go of the wheel, and the car would have driven itself. It would have automatically driven you to your desired destination. You just have to let go control. Let go attachment to this idea that you exist, which is perpetuated by your addiction to thinking and your addiction to every other method by which you stimulate yourself.

Free from conditionings. Jesus said be fully in the world but not of the world. Fully in, but not of. Fully present, but not defined by this world, apart from it somehow, not the thinker in the monkey, the nothingness which underlies everything.

You see this nothingness underlying everything in meditation. It’s harder to see outside of meditation because meditation increases calmness, alertness, and clairty. Repeated experiences of this nothingness makes it easier to experience outside of meditation. This increases until eventually the experience of nothingness is permanent. You are now free from suffering for good. You are liberated. You are everything and nothing. What was glimpses is now your default.

This whole time it felt so complex or dramatic, because the experience of truth you have as a separate self while reading stuff related to enlightenment scares the ego, so it seems big and dramatic. But when in the non-dual state, it is no longer this mystical thing. It was all there ever was. It was no different from anything. It’s just what is. It’s just awakeness. The dreaming is the weird part, not being enlightened. Once occupied, it feels bizarre that it’s even possible to be fooled into the delusion of which you spent so many years.

I hypothesis this is how it will be at least. I’m not there. I have non-abiding states of non-duality. It is yet to become abiding, full, unwavering. For that to happen I have to make myself more accident-prone by increasing my attention, mindfulness, clarity, and peace. I must overcome acting like a puppet being pulled like strings, acting thinking and feeling based off the conditionings, living controlled by karma. This is done by making oneself sit ultimately, to stop stimulating yourself. Like making a dog learn to sit, you must make your monkey learn to sit. Only then can the delusion end, and hence suffering end, and then life begin.

These concepts are merely to point as signposts. Internalise these concepts, because I believe they are the most effective and making one accident prone. They explicitaly state the futility of seeking salvation through thinking, through paths. These concepts are the thorn you use to remove the thorn in a wound.

The dreaming is the great obstacle. Stop dreaming. Stop thinking. Sit for long durations with your attention anchored on a sensation, visual or sensual. Put an end to the automatic thinking but doing countless repetitions of bringing your attention back to the anchor sensation after it goes off into thinking. Like teaching a dog to obey your command, not to run off wherever their whims take them. In this way, the spirit can be said to attain free will by no longer being controlled by the biology. The spirit is not individual, but is the spirit of everything, that which underlies the world of duality, of this and that, of separation.
